OFFICIAL 2015 MLS MATCH BALL

December 8, 2014 – Adidas and Major League Soccer unveiled NATIVO, the official match ball for 2015, the League’s 20th season. NATIVO’s bold aesthetic meshes with the new MLS brand identity while the ball’s materials and technology meet the unrivaled standards set by Brazuca, the official match ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.

The NATIVO structure features six identical panels to optimize aerodynamics, stability and symmetry in flight. A unique, micro-texture surface provides improved grip, touch, and control. As Adidas’ most tested ball ever, NATIVO performs well in all conditions and draws praise from professionals and amateurs around the world.

“Our partnership with MLS is incredibly important to us because together, we’re ensuring our homegrown athletes have viable opportunities to play soccer at the highest level,” said Ernesto Bruce, Director of Soccer at Adidas America. “Entering the league’s 20th season, we’re excited to bring our most advanced ball ever to the soccer pitch so we can help players perform at their best.” .

NATIVO’s design is an expression of the new MLS brand. Prominent maple leaf and star images represent the League’s two home nations, Canada and the United States, while the red, white and blue reflect the colors of these nations and the MLS brand. Adidas and Major League Soccer Unveil the 2017 Official Match Ball

-NATIVO’s new design features symbols of the United States and Canada representing unity in North America soccer-

-Design inspiration epitomizes how soccer transcends the field-

-Ball debut on-pitch on March 3rd as 2017 MLS season kicks off-

Portland, Ore. January 12, 2017 – Adidas and Major League Soccer today launched the newly designed NATIVO, the Official Match Ball for the 2017 MLS season.

The most tested MLS ball to date, the structure of the NATIVO features the same innovative and widely-praised panel shape as the Brazuca – a unique symmetry of six identical panels that are thermally-bonded together to keep out moisture. In addition, the ball offers premium surface structure designed to provide improved grip, touch, stability and aerodynamics.

“The 2017 MLS Official Match Ball attests to how year after year Adidas Soccer brings the world’s best innovative technology to the field of play,” said Ernesto Bruce, Adidas Sr. Director of Soccer. “The 2017 NATIVO’s blueprint showcases the spirit of Adidas Soccer and Major League Soccer blended through a creative design language that highlights the U.S. and Canadian flags, while also featuring a unique texture that will inspire soccer fans across North America to take their game from the stadium to the street.”

MLS_2017_NATIVO3

The design on the NATIVO combines the symbols of the United States of America and Canada to represent the unity existing within North America soccer. The country flags are then covered by semi-opaque black and grey portions inspired by urban design, a texture inspired by the influence soccer has in popular culture as it transcends from stadium to street and vice-versa. The design also serves as a testament to the MLS supporters’ groups who start their walks to the stadiums and carry that passion into the game.

Same ball construction as the Brazuca.

Adidas unveils the new Official Matchball for the UEFA Champions League®-English

Herzogenaurach, May 1, 2001 – adidas, the world’s leading football brand, launches today its first ever Official Matchball exclusively designed and developed for the UEFA Champions League®, the world’s most prestigious club competition. The new ball named “Finale“ is the latest result of adidas’ quest for excellence and innovation and a long tradition of improving the game of football by developing the very best equipment.

The adidas Finale features a unique design, inspired by the UEFA Champions League® starball logo, one of the most recognizable symbols in world football. This underlines adidas’ commitment to break new ground in the new millennium developing new and distinct products for the most important events in football. The exclusive Champions League design inextricably links adidas and the new matchball to the very best of football.

On the technical side, the adidas Finale was developed based on the adidas EQUIPMENT Terrestra Silverstream, the Official Matchball of the UEFA European Football Championship 2000™. Softer, faster and more accurate than any other adidas soccer ball before, the adidas Finale also features a layer of highly compressed, gas-filled micro-ballons of equal size (syntactic foam), proven during EURO 2000™ and probably contributing to the highest average goal rate in a major tournament ever. In the development phase, adidas involved top players such as Zinedine Zidane, Raúl, Patrick Kluivert and Alessandro Del Piero to test the ball, all of them known for their special feel for the goal.

“Our commitment to the UEFA Champions League® underlines our determination to further strengthen our position as the number one soccer brand in the world. Our introduction of the UEFA Champions League® licensed products as well as the development of an exclusive Champions League matchball is just the latest proof of our efforts. This is the tournament where the best play the very best – a natural place for adidas to be,“ said Erich Stamminger, Member of the Executive Board of adidas-Salomon AG, responsible for global marketing.

The new adidas Finale matchball will be used in the semi-final matches Real Madrid-Bayern München and Bayern München-Real Madrid on May 1 and 9 and naturally in the Final in Milan, May 23, 2001.

Champions_finale_Athens_2007

Athens/Herzogenaurach, March 8th, 2007 – Today adidas presents the Official Match Ball for the UEFA Champions League™ Final in Athens on May 23rd: the adidas “Finale Athens”. The Greek capital is hosting its 4th UEFA Champions League™ Final in the newly built 2004 Olympic Stadium, where Europe’s best football clubs will play the Final of the 2006/2007 season.

 The adidas “Finale Athens” features the successful adidas +Teamgeist™ technology, a 14-panel configuration. The combination of the revolutionary panel shape, a new carcass construction and the thermal bonding technology provide this official match ball for the Final with the best performance qualities ever.

The design of the adidas “Finale Athens” is based on the widely recognizable UEFA Champions League™ star ball logo and is executed in blue and white, representing the colors of Greece. Celebrating the city where the first modern Olympics of 1896 took place, adidas named the ball for the UEFA Champions League™ Final the “Finale Athens“. The adidas “Finale Athens” is available globally at a retail price of $129.00 as of today.

Both finalists will receive the Finale Athens ball for use in their pre-match training in advance of the 23 May showpiece at the Olympic Stadium. The team that comes out on top in the final will also have the exclusive right to use the ball for home matches as they defend the prestigious trophy next season, as was the case with FC Barcelona this term. Adidas unveils Golden Ball for 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Final

golden_ball_detail

Personalized Match Ball for every game of FIFA World Cup ™

The adidas +Teamgeist™ Berlin, the Match Ball especially produced for the final game in Berlin on July 9th, was officially unveiled by the President of the Organizing Committee, Franz Beckenbauer at the Brandenburger Gate in Berlin. The golden adidas +Teamgeist™ Berlin will only be used in one game, the single most important game in global football, the FIFA World Cup™ final.´

“The FIFA World Cup final is the most important match in the history of sport. There really is no greater thing than to play in a World Cup final. That is why I think it is a fantastic idea to have a very special ball especially for this match,” said Franz Beckenbauer President of the FIFA World Cup™ Organizing Committee: “Sure, the ball will still be round, no change there. But it will be a very special game and it is going to be played with a golden match ball that was especially designed for it. I think that’s absolutely fantastic!”

This special Match Ball design is similar to the adidas +Teamgeist™ but executed in gold, the color of the FIFA World Cup™ trophy, with black and white details. Its name, “+Teamgeist Berlin”, is not only based on the single most decisive characteristic every team needs to have in order to lift the trophy, team spirit, but also on the German capital where the final will be played. The adidas Golden Ball is already a well-known element in the world of football, because it is the name of the official FIFA trophy awarded to the best player of the FIFA World Cup™ tournament.

In addition, for the first time ever, each of the match balls for the FIFA World Cup™ will be personalized with the name of the stadium, the teams, the match date and the kick-off time of each individual game. adidas will supply FIFA with 15 personalized match balls for each match. Earlier this year, each of the 32 qualified federations received a shipment of 20 match balls for training purposes. All teams will receive a second shipment with 20 balls when they start their final preparation. In addition to the 40 regular match balls they will also be supplied with 20 +Teamgeist™ Berlin match balls so that each of the teams can already start preparing for the FIFA World Cup final now! This delivery will bring the grand total of adidas match balls supplied to FIFA and the participating federations to 2,880.

In total adidas expects to sell well over 10 million FIFA World Cup™ match balls. adidas first began the production of footballs in 1963 and is the world’s leading manufacturer, always at the cutting edge of technology and design. adidas has supplied the Match Balls to all major UEFA and FIFA tournaments since 1970 and will also be the Official Partner and Ball Supplier of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup™.

The ball is produced by technology so advanced the German sportswear giant assured the performance is “unprecedented.”The ball should please the home team. Adidas said in a statement it produced Teamgeist “as a tribute to host Germany’s greatest football moments and its traditional uniforms.”

Even the name refers to a German trait: Teamgeist means team spirit, something the Germans have long thrived on instead of individual brilliance. Adidas indicates “The fine gold accents along the rounded propellers are inspired by the golden FIFA World Cupä Trophy. The revolutionary new panel shape is designed to minimize corners and to create a more homogenous system in terms of performance and look. The radiant lines of the graphics surrounding the propeller shape symbolize movement and energy. Thanks to adidas innovation team designer Scott Tomlinson from England and German category designer Anatol Just, +Teamgeistä combines everything needed to become a state-of-the-art product.”

Teamgeist design panel
Teamgeist_World_Cup_Ball_Panels

Traditional 32 panel hand stitched balls have a wider target zone meaning accuracy is hard to consistantly achieve. The new 14-panel design has resulted in a ball with the most consistent performance characteristics ever, enabling the players to show their true skills. There are fewer seams, so the ball is rounder and performs more uniformly, regardless of where it is hit. The more perfect the sphere is, the more balanced it will be, offering greater accuracy due to the predictability of its flight. The new panel shape harmonizes the energy displacement and minimizes the amount of corners, while the larger panels allow for a cleaner kicking area. Perhaps the biggest difference the players will find with the new balls will be how they play in the wet. Normally, a wet and heavy ball behaves quite differently from a dry one. It flies slower through the air, has a lower bounce and is more difficult to curl. A patented Thermal Bonding technology makes the new ball virtually waterproof with identical performance characteristics wet or dry. The FIFA Approved Standard for water absorption stipulates no more than a 10% weight increase – the +Teamgeist’s has less than 0.1 % weight increase. Similarly, it has significantly improved on all standards for uniformity of rebound and pressure retention and shape and size retention. Clever design and technologies has enabled Adidas to reduce manufacturing tolerances to a new level.

The adidas Innovation Team (a.i.t) has tested the new Match Ball for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, first under tough laboratory conditions, later also with professional players and clubs on the field of play. Scientific tests were conducted together with the Sports Technology Research Group of the University of Loughborough, one of the leading institutions of its kind worldwide. These tests confirmed that the adidas +Teamgeist is more round, precise and consistent than any top competitor match ball.

Comparison to FIFA Approved Standards:

Teamgeist roundness circum

Circumference: The FIFA Approved Standard: 68.5 cm – 69.5 cm. The adidas +Teamgeist: 69.0 cm – 69.25 cm

Diameter: FIFA Approved Standard: max. 1.5% difference The adidas +Teamgeist: max. 1.0% difference

Water Absorption: FIFA Approved Standard: no more than 10% weight increase. The adidas +Teamgeist: Water absorption: no more than 0,1 % weight increase

Weight: FIFA Approved Standard: Weight between 420 and 445 grams The adidas +Teamgeist: Weight between 441 and 444 grams

Shape and Size Retention: FIFA Approved Standard: 2,000 cycles at 50 km per hour. The adidas +Teamgeist: 3,500 cycles at 50 km per hour.

Rebound Test: FIFA Approved Standard: No more than 10 cm. The adidas +Teamgeist: No more than 2 cm.

Loss of Pressure: FIFA Approved Standard: Loss of pressure max. 20% The adidas +Teamgeist: Loss of pressure max. 11%.

Drum Test by Adidas: The drum test was developed by adidas to guarantee high quality and durability of the printed surface, the unique design and look of the ball. The adidas +Teamgeist is the first ball ever to feature a complete underglass print technology, providing the +Teamgeist with the best and strongest surface material ever and guaranteeing the ball is more durable and will hold its unique look much longer.

Overview:New panel shape and carcass construction of the +TEAMGEIST leads to:
Increased precision for straight and curved shots: With the +TEAMGEIST, every pass, every shot, every dribble, is as consistently accurate, powerful and fast as the last.
Improved all weather performance for consistent play in any condition.

  • Revolutionary Panel Shape: eliminates surface irregularities to create a perfectly round ball for greater accuracy
  • New Carcass: improves accuracy and power
  • Complete Underglass Print: significantly decreases abrasion of design
  • Thermal Bonding: seamless panels create a smooth, consistent kicking surface

Teamgeist II Goal Line Technology

Teamgeist_II_adidas

Yokohama/Herzogenaurach, December 13th, 2007 – Today, adidas and Cairos Technologies presented the new Goal Line Technology and the adidas intelligent football tested at the FIFA Club World Cup™ in Japan from December 7 through 16, 2007.  The official match ball of the tournament, adidas Teamgeist II, features a new intelligent technology designed to assist the referee’s decision in determining when and if the ball has crossed the goal line, making it the most accurate football ever produced.

“The purpose of the adidas intelligent ball and Goal Line Technology is to provide greater transparency during a match and to assist the referee in making quick decisions that can impact the outcome and quality of the game” said Hans-Peter Nuernberg, Senior Development Engineer, adidas Innovation Team.  “We expect the system to perform very well during the FIFA Club World Cup™ in Japan and we will continue to refine the system so that it is 100% accurate.”

The intelligent technology implemented in the Teamgeist II uses a magnetic field to provide real-time feedback to a central computer, which tracks the location of the ball on the field and sends the data directly to the referee.  By using a magnetic field and more stabilized and robust components within the ball, the new system is more precise and is not influenced by in-game factors, adverse weather or nearby technical systems.

“With the complexities and precision needed for Goal Line Technology, it is imperative that the system is tested in a variety of competitive in-game situations,” said Christian Holzer, COO of Cairos technologies.  “The opportunity to test the new technology during such a competitive tournament will supply us with the valuable feedback needed in order to continue refining the system.”

Since 2003, adidas and Cairos in cooperation with FIFA, have developed the Goal Line Technology, which was first publicly tested in 2005 during the U-17 FIFA World Cup™ in Peru.  The first system used radio transmissions to correspond with a central computer and a microchip suspended in the ball to determine its location on the field.  The new Goal Line Technology and adidas intelligent ball have been redeveloped since 2005 to address the critical situations in which better accuracy is needed.

Following the testing during the FIFA Club World Cup™ in Japan, the results will be evaluated and next steps will be determined by Cairos technologies and adidas as to when the system will be ready to test again publicly.  The new system currently meets all International Football Association Board (IFAB) requirements and the ball has been approved by FIFA for competitive international play.  adidas’ experience in football manufacturing is unsurpassed anywhere in the world and leads the industry in the production of the most innovative footballs since 1963.  The Goal Line technology is a testament to the ongoing commitment adidas has to innovation and the development of new technologies in football and across all sports categories.

In addition to the Hi-Vis innovations, the Maxim features geometric precision technology to distribute pressure evenly across the panels for a consistent, accurate and powerful strike.

Additional performance enhancing innovations include:

– Hand-stitched casing for craftsmanship and durability;

– Durable, lightweight PU casing with micro-grooves stabilizes ball flight to increase efficiency and accuracy;

– Flexible, supple, cross-linked nitrogen-expanded foam provides superior “touch” and a consistent feel in all weather conditions;

– Engineered rubber response layer helps store energy from impact and releases it at launch for enhanced power and speed;

– A layer of polyester support fabric enhances the structure and stability of the ball for long-term performance and durability.
