7. Cuauhtemoc Blanco

Cuauhtemoc Blanco

Amongst the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time, dynamic forward Cuauhtemoc Blanco made his international debut in 1995, scoring 38 goals in 119 appearances. He was awarded the FIFA Confederations Cup Silver Boot in 1999 with Mexico crowned Champions and was part of a national side that claimed the CONCACAF Gold Cup in both 1996 and 1998.

Blanco played 573 times throughout his club career for a wide range of Mexican, Spanish and NASL teams and scored 181 goals. He was named Mexican Primera División’s best player on three occasions whilst at Invierno and also claimed the league’s Golden Boot as its top scorer in 1998.

6. Horacio Casarin

Horacio Casarin

Legendary forward Horacio Casarin established himself as one of Mexico’s most popular sports figures in the 1940s and 1950s. His incredible ball skills and style were seen as somewhat of a rarity at the time. He spent a significant portion of his playing career at Mexican club Atlante, scoring 107 goals across a six-year period along with a short spell at FC Barcelona.

As one of the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time, Casarin represented his country a mere sixteen times in an era where international soccer was decimated by war and yet he still scored an impressive 15 goals for the national side.

5. Luis Hernandez

Luis Hernandez

Luis Hernandez is one of the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time. The forward played for a host of Mexican clubs and also joined MLS side LA Galaxy. He found the net a total of 132 times in 362 club appearances.

Hernandez made his Mexico debut in 1995 and went on to win 85 caps. He scored 35 goals for his country over a seven-year period and currently sits fourth on the list of his country’s all-time top goalscorers. Hernandez won the FIFA Confederation Cup in 1999, the Gold Cup twice in 1996 and 1998 along with finishing as Mexico’s top scorer at the 1997 Copa América. He also claimed the golden boot at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1998.

4. Javier ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez

Javier ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez

Sensational striker Javier Hernandez is among the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time. Still his country’s leading goalscorer, Hernandez featured most notably for Manchester United along with spells at Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. He won two Premier Leagues, one Mexican Division and a Europa League title. Hernandez scored a total of 195 goals in 505 club appearances.

Hernandez made his international debut in 2009, representing his country across an eleven-year period, winning a total of 109 caps and scoring 52 goals. He helped his country win the CONCACAF Cup in 2015. 

3. Jorge Campos

Jorge Campos

Goalkeeper Jorge Campos represented a range of Mexican and NASL sides during his career including the likes of UNAM, Atlante and LA Galaxy. He made 445 club appearances, claiming honours such as the Mexican Primera División, CONCACAF Champions’ Cup and MLS Cup. He also scored an impressive 34 times for his various clubs despite playing in goal!

Amongst the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time, Campos secured 129 international caps for his country across a period of twelve years. He was named 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup Best Player whilst forming part of a national side that won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1999.

2. Rafael Marquez

Rafael Marquez

Centre-back come defensive midfielder Rafael Marquez spent the majority of his playing career at French side Monica and later La Liga giants Barcelona – making a total of 628 club appearances and scoring 27 goals. He won a French League title and French Cup yet it was in Spain that Marquez found most success. Whilst at the Nou Camp he won four La Liga titles, four Spanish cups and two Champions Leagues honours. 

Marquez is amongst the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time. He earned a massive 147 caps for his country and scored 17 goals from defence. Márquez became the eighth player in history to reach 100 caps for Mexico during a friendly match against Venezuela. He was an integral part of Mexico’s 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup winning side and also won two CONCACAF Gold Cups.

Hugo Sanchez

Without question, one of the best Mexican Soccer players of all-time is Hugo Sanchez. The forward enjoyed an incredible club career and moved to La Liga after signing for Real Madrid. Sanchez won five consecutive Spanish League titles from 1985 to 1990, three Supercopa de España trophies in a row, the Copa del Rey and 1986 UEFA Cup. He claimed the European Golden Shoe in 1990 and finished his illustrious career with an immense 485 goals in 823 games.

Perhaps the greatest striker in the history of Mexican international football, Sanchez won the Pan American Games in 1975 and CONCACAF Championship two years later. He scored 29 goals in only 58 appearances for Mexico and remains their seventh highest goalscorer of all time!
