Jonathan Davis drops big transfer hint as Man United chase Canadian goalscorer

Canadian striker, Jonathan David has dropped likely the biggest hint yet on his immediate future, amid interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including long-time suitors, Man United.

David, who currently plys his trade in Ligue 1 with French side, Lille has once more enjoyed an impressive tenure up top for the side, netting 14 times in the league already this campaign.

And amid constant links to a summer move abroad – particularly to the Premier League, offshore sportsbooks are sure to soon offer odds on the future of Jonathan David in the coming weeks.

Finding the net on a jaw-dropping 23 separate occasions in all competitions this season to boot, David’s stock continues to rise this season. And he has not been shy about opening the door to potential suitors later this year when the summer transfer window opens.

“Obviously, with this summer going on, I’m not sure if I am staying or going,” Jonathan David told CBS Sports during a recent interview. “But if I do end up going, I have to push myself at the very highest level, and after that, when you play for a big club, your position is never guaranteed. You need to fight.

“I’m never guaranteed, wherever I go, to start. In every game, I have to perform and I’m willing to fight. Obviously, I know it is a big year and a big decision. I’ll make a wise decision.”

And as well as Davis, United seem to be in the market for a whole host of other striking options this summer.

Amid a faltering season, which has seen Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – the two out-and-out first team strikers at the club this season, fail to contribute massively, United are expected to bolster their attacking options.

Another potential target for the Old Trafford side is Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen. Another product of Lille, the current Napoli striker has enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Turkish side, Galatasaray – scoring an impressive 26 goals from 30 total appearances with the club.

Closer to home, United have also been linked with a move for impressive Crystal Palace striker, Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has contributed massively to the London club’s rise up the table, laying on an impressive number up top.

Any incomings at the club are expected to be fueled by a number of high-profile outings, however. Namely, the trio of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are expected to be offloaded on a permanent basis this summer, when their loan deals come to an end at the end of their club’s respective seasons.

Another eyed signing for United is Swedish striker, Viktor Gyokeres, who has continued his stunning running up top for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. And an interesting note to this potential deal is the former Coventry man’s links with current United head coach, Ruben Amorim – who splashed the cash to bring him from the Championship three seasons ago.

In a season with just Hojlund, Zirkzee, and young Danish prospect, Chido Obi Martin offering attacking outlets for United, a summer signing in the forward position is thought to be high on the club’s shopping priority list.
