Recently doing notable business with Man United in the past, Premier League rivals, West Ham have once more been linked with a high-profile loan deal for one of their forwards — in the form of want-away striker, Marcus Rashford.
West Ham, who recently parted ways with Julien Lopetegui and replaced the Spaniard with former Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea head boss, Graham Potter, return to Premier League action tonight on home soil against fellow London rivals, Fulham.
West Ham weigh up signing Marcus Rashford on loan
And amid the recent car collision involving striker, Michail Antonio, West Ham has been linked with a massive loan move for the above-mentioned, Rashford — while new manager Graham Potter is reportedly considering his striking options in a reshift of strategy at the London Stadium. And as far as online sportsbetting is concerned, West Ham has emerged with decent betting odds in the lengthy race to sign United wideman, Rashford.
Furthermore, representing another academy product currently available to potential suitor as United is reportedly considering selling academy products including fellow winger, Alejandro Garnacho — who is garnering interest from Napoli, and midfield maestro, Kobbie Mainoo who has been targeted by Chelsea in recent weeks.
Exiting the FA Cup over the course of last weekend, despite an early effort from Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Paqueta, The Hammers were pegged back through goals from Amadou Onana and then Morgan Rogers who sent Villa through to the fourth round.
Struggling for attacking options with former Borussia Dortmund forward, Niclas Fullkrug yet to find his form, leaving former Liverpool striker, Danny Ings as their sole striking force, new head coach, Potter claimed if would be a “logical” step for West Ham to consider signing a striker during this January transfer window.
“I would not say [it is] imperative,” Graham Potter replied when asked about signing a striker during the January transfer window. “Obviously with the situation with Mic (Michail Antonio) as well, there is certainly a logical rationale to do something. But it is not quite as simple as that. I would not want to make the wrong decision or do something for the sake of it in this window.”
Left out of United’s stunning 5-3 penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round over the course of the weekend, Rashford’s immediate future was discussed once more by new head coach, Ruben Amorim following his side’s win to boot.
“I don’t know,” Ruben Amorim told assembled media at the Emirates Stadium following United’s win over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. “We’ll see. He (Marcus Rashford) is a player for Manchester United. We’ll see. He has to work.”
“He has to represent his club and he loves his club but I have to make choices” Amorim explained. “I already spoke about how I make the choices. It is what it is. Let’s continue, let’s see the next game and like I said I have to make a selection.”
If West Ham are to sign Rashford on loan this window, the London club will have to pull off a major coup, beating the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Paris Saint Germain, as well as recent Spanish Super Cup winners, FC Barcelona to the English striker’s signature.
