Everton vs Southampton Betting Preview

While there are still a handful of important storylines floating around as we get closer to the end of the Premier League campaign, perhaps nothing is more important than Everton’s goodbye to Goodison Park. For one final time, they will compete on that hallowed turf in a top flight game, and they’ll do so against already relegated Southampton in what promises to be a poignant moment for the club and its supporters.

Everton Football Club haven’t exactly been at their best over the course of the last decade or so and that much is an understatement. The days of them regularly challenging for European places are long gone and instead, they’ve been closer to relegation than the top half for a good few years. However, now that David Moyes is back in charge, the big hope is that they can kick on and start to push for even better things.

Unfortunately, it’s been the exact opposite. They are currently sat on just 12 points and while that does mean they’ve surpassed Derby’s woeful total, it also means they’re one of the worst teams in Premier League history.

For some reason, it just feels like we’re destined to have a back and forth slugfest of a game. It seems like the right way to say goodbye to this stadium with some late drama, a lot of tension, and some great passages of play. Southampton have a role here as the spoilers and, believe or not, we actually think they’ll live up to that now that they’ve managed to get over the hump of the dreaded 11 points.

It’s not going to be the most technical affair you’ve ever seen but in a lot of ways, it doesn’t need to be in order for this to be seen as a good departure. Everton winning would be the fairytale ending but we actually think it’s more likely that they’ll share the spoils, as painful as that may be for the Toffees’ faithful to here.
