Liverpool Could Look To Premier League Rivals For Klopp’s Replacement

The biggest story in world football right now is Jurgen Klopp’s decision to call it a day as Liverpool manager at the end of the current season. The German’s decision caught everyone off guard when it was announced recently by the club, and attention has already turned to who will succeed the man who finally brought a Premier League title to Anfield.

Klopp, 56, has a stunning record as a manager, and not just at Liverpool. But while at Anfield, his points per game average haul stands at a fantastic 2.07, and that’s after well over 450 games in charge. There was always going to be a time when Klopp departed, but that doesn’t make replacing him any easier. At the time of writing, those who BET ON FOOTBALL ONLINE will see former Liverpool icon Xabi Alonso lead the way in various odds lists. However, could the Reds look closer to home for their next manager?

Two names that also feature high up in the betting are Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu. Since stepping in for Graham Potter, Italian De Zerbi has made a notable impact as the Seagulls’ manager. He has received numerous commendations for his strategic savvy. Being a forward thinking club, Brighton are likely preparing for their time post De Zerbi, who has demonstrated his value in the Premier League. The Seagulls’ inconsistent performance this season is the sole concern, which might be a result of adapting to playing in Europe.

Spurs hired Postecoglu, a Liverpool fan, in the summer to the surprise of many. Big Ange, as he’s known, has enjoyed success everywhere he’s been, and the Australian is already changing Tottenham’s fortunes with his Ange-ball style of play. Postecolgu’s methods, tactics and playing style would undoubtedly get Liverpool fans off their seats, but as he’s already manager of one of the biggest clubs in the division, would Postecoglu, who is seemingly building something special in North London, really swap that to be Klopp’s replacement at this stage?

Aside from De Zerbi and Postecoglu, Brentford manager Thomas Frank also appears in the betting. The Dane, like De Zerbi and Postecoglu, wants his teams to play attacking football where they get down the sides. It’s a style that fits with the Liverpool way under Klopp and the squad that’s been built over the last few years specifically. But you’d naturally feel that others would be ahead of Frank in the running.

Replacing a manager like Klopp, whose energy and enthusiasm transformed Liverpool as a football club and made them one of the top teams in the world once again. As the German said himself, this is Liverpool 2.0, and the foundations are there for someone new to come in and take things forward. While there is a clamour for the impressive Alonso, De Zerbi and Postecoglu, especially, have proven credentials in the Premier League.
