The 2026 World Cup is fast approaching, with 48 teams heading to Canada, Mexico and the USA to fight it out for the ultimate crown.

The holders head into 2026, third favourite to win the competition once again. Lionel Messi will return to captain his nation in an international tournament for the final time, chasing the ultimate glory once again.

Whilst Messi is on the way out, Argentina come into the tournament with some new talent. Thiago Almada and Enzo Fernandez are expected to run the midfield, with Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez to help Messi with the goal scoring.

There is never a time to rule Argentina out, and even with Messi in the twilight of his career, his nation remain one of the powerhouses in world football and looked destined to compete for another World Cup trophy.

England

Forever the nearly men in recent tournaments, England are once again in the conversation of favourites for another World Cup. In their first tournament under Thomas Tuchel, the current No. 1 striker in the world, Harry Kane, will lead the line as the Three Lions look for their first international trophy since 1966.

Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice will most likely line up in central midfield, looking to show their pedigree as two of the best in world football. The talent doesn’t stop there, with Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka on the wings, Marc Guehi and John Stones in defence and the ever-reliable Jordan Pickford in net.

Tuchel joined England to get over the hump and secure that trophy. The Three Lions head to North America with their most talented squad in generations, expecting glory.

Spain go into this World Cup in unstoppable form, having beaten the No. 2 ranked nation in the final of the Euros to take their place at the top of the rankings. La Roja represents one of the most complete teams in world football and are aiming for the first World Cup victory since the Xavi and Andres Iniesta led side in 2010.

A team built to play together, rather than lean on its stars, is still full of unbelievable talent. Lamine Yamal, Martin Zubimendi, Ferran Torres, Rodri, Pedri and Nico Williams are just a few names that fill the Spanish squad that play at the top level of football.

Luis de la Fuente’s team are rightfully favourites for the World Cup. The team are on form, in tune and full of bags of talent. You want a team to back this year, then La Roja is the one.
