Betting odds suggest Man United move for ex-player Paul Pogba dead in the water
According to the bookies this evening, Man United’s rumored pursuit of a third stint for former midfield maestro, Paul Pogba is all but dead in the water — with MLS side, Inter Miami FC now closing as betting favorites to sign the Frenchman.
Pogba, a former star in the United midfield, has been linked heavily this week with a third tenure with the Old Trafford side following his departure from Italian giants, Juventus — and the completion of his anti-doping ban.
Man United drift in race to resign Paul Pogba
However, most of the sportsbooks that payout the fastest are suggesting the above-mentioned, Inter Miami FC are the most likely destination for World Cup winner, Pogba — at odds of 7/4 — with United drifting as high as 6/1 to resign the Frenchman again.
Set to return to action tonight in the UEFA Europa League, United travel to Romania to take on Steaua Bucuresti in a pivotal clash — in the hope of remaining in the automatic qualification places for the draw’s next round.
And closing in on their first signing of this January transfer window and the Ruben Amorim-era this week, Man United have struck an agreement with Italian side, Lecce to sign Danish wing back, Patrick Dorgu — in a deal which could measure up to nearly £30,000,000.
Unlikely to feature in Man United’s matchday squad for their Premier League return on the weekend at home against Crystal Palace, Dorgu is first expected to undergo a medical in Manchester before the weekend.
And with the January transfer window slamming shut on Bank Holiday Monday, the immediate future of Marcus Rashford remains up in the air — with the above-mentiond Amorim insisting the situation with the English wideman is far from clear, as he demands certain “standards” in training and preparation.
“Imagine a talent like (Marcus) Rashford, our team should be so much better with him – but he has to change,” Ruben Amorim said on Wednesday during his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s matchup with Steaua Bucuresti. “If he changes, we are more than welcome [to include him] – and we need it. But in this moment we have to set some standards. We are waiting for Rashford, if he wants it really bad.
“You [the media] want to make it personal, I have nothing against Marcus, but I have to make the same rules for everybody,” Amorim continued. “We need goals, we need [players who can go] one against one, we need threat in the final third.”
Expected to partake in some more late-window activity over the weekend, United have been heavily linked with a loan move for another French talent, in the form of Bayern Munich forward, Mathys Tel.
Linked with a loan move for the former Rennes goalscorer, United are open to singing another forward to bolstering their attacking numbers in the final days of the window, with Brazilian winger, Antony departing on loan to Real Betis officially over the weekend.
Depending on outgoings at Old Trafford, a move for French prospect, Tel is reportedly only viable if United can offload a combination of either Rashford or Argentine forward, Alejandro Garnacho over the weekend, amid links to a move to either Chelsea or Serie A side, Napoli.
