Man United exploring summer swoop for Sporting wing back Geovany Quenda in £50million move

According to reports this afternoon, Man United are exploring the possibility of a summer transfer move for Sporting Lisbon wing back, Geovany Quenda — in a deal which could amount to £50,000,000.

Returning to action overnight in their final league phase match of the UEFA Europa League, United landed automatic qualification to the next round courtesy of a two-nil win over Steaua Bucuresti — with second half goals from both Diogo Dalot, and Kobbie Mainoo.

And fans of fun football bets will be happy to hear how United have moved as overall betting favorites to win the competition outright with odds as high as 9/2 available, ahead of a second round clash with a combination of AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, or FC Midtjylland.

Closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window this weekend, Danish wing back, Patrick Dorgu is expected to complete his near £30,000,000 move from Italian side, Lecce ahead of a medical on Saturday in a trip to Old Trafford.

And according to reports this afternoon, whilst set to bolster their attacking options on the left side of their defense, United are set to launch a stunning £50,000,000 bid to sign Portuguese right wing back, Geovany Quenda — who has featured prominently under the guidance of Ruben Amorim during his gold-laden stint with Sporting.

As per The Athletic, United are not expected to swoop for Geovany Quenda in their winter transfer window as they prioritise a move in the summer once the Portuguese prospect turns 18.

“Manchester United are exploring a deal to sign winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP in the summer,” David Ornstein reported. “No formal offer has been made but United are looking into a move for the 17-year-old Portugal youth international, who turns 18 in April and is expected to cost around €40million.

“A switch would reunite Geovany Quenda with United head coach Ruben Amorim, the pair having worked together before Amorim left Sporting for Old Trafford in November,” Ornstein wrote. “For now, though, United are prioritising business in the winter market ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline. Work on the next window will be stepped up subsequently.”

In terms of outgoing players at Old Trafford, United are expected to offload academy product, Marcus Rashford before next Monday’s transfer deadline, with the wideman once more left out of last night’s travelling squad for their win in Romania.

Speaking before his side’s victory over Steaua Bucuresti this week during his media availability, Amorim insisted that if Rashford is to have any sort of future in his plans or at Old Trafford, he “must change” his ways in approach and in training.

“Imagine a talent like (Marcus) Rashford, our team should be so much better with him – but he has to change,” Ruben Amorim said on Wednesday during his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s matchup with Steaua Bucuresti. “If he changes, we are more than welcome [to include him] – and we need it. But in this moment we have to set some standards. We are waiting for Rashford, if he wants it really bad.

“You [the media] want to make it personal, I have nothing against Marcus, but I have to make the same rules for everybody,” Amorim continued. “We need goals, we need [players who can go] one against one, we need threat in the final third.”
