A host of Poles have forged successful careers in Europe with the country’s golden generation spanning the late 70’s and early 80’s still revered for their consecutive World Cup third place finishes.

7. Jakub Błaszczykowski

Jakub Błaszczykowski

Across a brilliant career, winger Jakub Błaszczykowski played 375 times for the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, winning two Bundesliga titles and DFB-Pokal.

As one of the best Polish Soccer players of all-time, Błaszczykowski represented his country 109 times and scored 21 goals in the process. He won Polish Soccer player of the Year twice and Poland national soccer team’s Best Player in 2010.

6. Ernest Pohl

Ernest Pohl

Ernest Pohl was one of the best Polish Soccer players of all-time. He played most notably for Legia Warsaw and Górnik Zabrze, winning ten Ekstraklasa league titles and two Polish Cups. 

Pohl made his full international debut in 1955. He scored 39 goals in 46 international matches for the Poland national soccer team and remains the Polish First Division’s most prolific scorer with 186 goals.

5. Włodzimierz Lubański

Włodzimierz Lubański featured as a forward for the likes of Polish league club Gornik Zabrze and Belgium’s Lokeren, appearing over 500 times and netting 279 goals. 

Amongst the best Polish Soccer players of all-time, Lubański made 75 international appearances with 48 strikes and still remains the second highest Polish goalscorer of all time.

4. Grzegorz Lato

Grzegorz Lato is one of the best Polish Soccer players of all-time. The midfielder featured predominantly for domestic league club Stal Mielec along with spells at Belgian side Lokeren and Mexico’s Atlante. He made 404 senior appearances and scored 145 goals. 

Lato finished as the Polish Premier League top scorer twice and Polish Soccer player of the Year. He made his international debut in 1971, claiming 100 caps and scoring a total of 45 goals. Following Poland’s third place finish at the 1974 World Cup, Lato was awarded the Golden Shoe as its best player and named in FIFA’s World Cup All-Star Team.

3. Kazimierz Deyna

Amongst the best Polish Soccer players of all-time, dynamic attacking midfielder Kazimierz Deyna made his international debut in 1968, playing ten years for the national team and scoring 41 goals in 97 appearances. He was an integral part of Poland’s 1974 World Cup side and even netted three times at the tournament.

Deyna played over 600 times for the likes of LKS Lodz, Legia Warsaw and even English side Manchester City whilst scoring a total of 267 times. He finished third at the 1974 Ballon d’Or, was top scorer at the 1972 Olympics and named Polish Soccer player of the Year twice in 1973 and 1974.

2. Zbigniew Boniek

Forward-thinking midfielder Zbigniew Boniek spent a large portion of his playing career at Italian sides Juventus and Roma, making a total of 150 appearances in Serie A alone. Whilst at Juventus he won an Italian league title, Coppa Italia and the 1985 European Cup.

Boniek is considered one of the best Polish Soccer players of all-time. He earned 80 caps for his country and scored 24 times. He finished third in the 1982 Ballon d’Or and was also named in FIFA’s top 100 in 2004.

Undoubtedly one of the best Polish Soccer players of all-time is prolific striker Robert Lewandowski. He played in some of Europe’s top leagues for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Lewandowski won numerous league titles in Germany and the 2020 European Cup.
