Man United drift in UEFA Championship League odds race after 3-2 loss to Forest

Following today’s second loss in the Premier League in less than a week, midtable side, Man United confirnue to see their odds of making the UEFA Champions League next season drift – further hampered by today’s dismal 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest at home.

Downed this week at the Emirates from a pair set piece goals from both Jurrien Timber and William Saliba against arch-rivals, Arsenal – Man United were once more undone from a corner this evening, with Nikola Milenkovic rising highest to give Forest an early lead at Old Trafford.

Managing to score twice through Rasmus Hojlund, and then Bruno Fernandes – efforts from both Morgan Gibbs-White and then Chris Wood put Man United to bed in a disappointing 3-2 loss at home in the second half.

And currently sat eight points behind neighbors, Man City ahead of next weekend’s Manchester Derby in pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualifications – fans of the latest NFL odds updates can still get Man United as high as +850 to earn a European place through the league come May.

Returning to UEFA Europa League competition next week in a difficult trip to the Czech Republic to take on Viktoria Plzen, United are also chasing the pack of eight other teams if they hope to secure automatic qualification to the next phase of the competition.

After that, the Old Trafford side will look to prevent a third straight defeat in the league under new boss, Ruben Amorim, in a lofty task as they take on the above-mentioned City – and despite the recent highlighted falters of Pep Guardiola’s side, remain betting underdogs to emerge with a win nevertheless.

Addressing today’s performance against Forest, led by compatriot, Nuno Espirito Santo, Portuguese head coach, Amorim described the tense encounter today as a “tough” game for his side – and for him to take in from the touchline.

It was a tough game, we started the two halves really bad,” Ruben Amorim. “It was hard to pass on some calm to the players and continue the game as we should do. We had not a lot of quality but a lot of heart. Suffering two goals after half-time in this context is really hard.

“We need more time to put positionings in. If you see the first goal it was good combination between the players and after the first goal we had good moments, creating chances but then we went forward without thinking. It’s a tough context but we have to understand this is a long journey and that’s what our jobs are.”

Attempting to take some of the blame away from Cameroonian keeper, Andre Onana – who received massive criticizm for his positioning for both goals from Gibbs-White and Oceanic striker, Wood, Amorim claimed the former’s display against Ipswich Town should earn him some remorse.

“(Andre) Onana has saved us a lot of times,” Ruben Amorim explained following Man United’s defeat. “We have to find a way when [a mistake] happens. We have to turn it around to help our goalkeeper. The same way he saves us at Ipswich.”
