Man United weigh up move for FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen in busy end to January window

Amid links to a potential move for Lecce defender, Patrick Dorgu, reports out of Spain have now also linked Man United with a surprise move for former Chelsea center half, Andreas Christensen — in a bid to sign the FC Barcelona defender to bolster their defensive options in the last months of the season.

Earlier this week, reports emerged detailing how Man United had held talks with Serie A side, Lecce regarding a potential move for Danish full back, Dorgu — in a deal which could amount to €40,000,000.

And amid links to a massive 1/1 odds move for Marcus Rashford to the La Liga side — fans and punters can still find the best slots and betting odds on the English forward’s potential move from Old Trafford to Camp Nou this month.

As for potential incoming targets this month, United have been further linked with the above-mentioned move for Dorgu, with the 20-year-old Danish defender targeted to provide competition to Portuguese defender, Diogo Dalot — who has largely struggled for form in recent months.

And according to a report from The Athletic — Man United are currently locked in talks to add Dorgu to their squad in this January transfer window, in a bid to bolster their wing back position — currently occupied by Dalot, with both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw struggling for fitness since the new season began last summer.

“Man United’s move for Dorgu, who is left-footed, indicates there is an internal desire to add attacking oomph from wing-back, and more generally back Amorim’s tactical idea,” Laurie Whitwell wrote. “Dorgu has scored three goals with one assist in 20 Serie A appearances this season for a side battling to avoid relegation, and is regarded as being comfortable in the final third. Lecce’s sporting director Pantaleo Corvino told Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport last month: “Left or right winger, he runs like three players and can find the goal. He has an engine that no one else has.”

“Corvino also said Dorgu is not for sale in this window, but Lecce entertaining negotiations shows he might leave for the right price. The allure of selling to a club the size of United could appeal, given Lecce’s excellent record at finding new players and turning a profit. United executives may travel to Italy as talks continue.”Furthermore, reports coming from Spain this week have revealed United’s new coach, Ruben Amorim is also looking to strengthen his defensive quarters in the center — with former Chelsea center back, Christensen.

Moving to FC Barcelona three years ago, under new German head coach, Hansi Flick, Christensen has struggled for appearances this season in La Liga — featuring just once in the league — and in all competitions, in fact.

However, over the last two seasons, Christensen would feature an impressive 74 times in all competitions under the tutelage of former FC Barcelona midfielder, Xavi Hernandez.

Man United’s potential outgoings beyond Rashford feature both wide player duo, Antony, who is set to make a loan move to La Liga side, Real Betis — while Argentine winger, Alejandro Garnacho continues to draw links with a move to both Napoli and above-mentioned Premier League rivals, Chelsea.
